BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) — Some local kids are going to be getting a new wardrobe for the upcoming school year. Thanks to the Salvation Army of Bryan-College Station, 30 children had the chance to shop at Walmart for new clothes and shoes.
The Salvation Army gave each child $100 to spend throughout the store. They were also able to leave with a new backpack.
Heather Bessera and her family took part in this year’s shopping spree. Because Bessera has three children, she was given $300 to spend at Walmart.
“They have shoes, socks, underwear, clothes, shirts, pants, everything,” Bessera says.
This event has existed for 13 years. Salvation Army Ladies Auxiliary president-elect Sheila Fields says this event is more important than it has ever been as the cost of items increases due to inflation.
“Even those who may not be considered needy and really need extra help, they are also struggling. Everyone is struggling with prices now,” Fields says.
Everyone who was able to participate in the shopping spree is part of the Salvation Army youth programs. If you would like more information or register your child, you can call the Salvation Army office at (979)-361-0618.
