Meta Avatar Store: Metaverse Shopping includes Prada, Balenciaga and more

Mark Zuckerberg has been a strong supporter of fashion within the Metaverse, and with Meta’s new Avatar Store, popular brands are selling digital designer clothes. The problem, however, is that some say it doesn’t look good.

Meta will launch Avatar Store with real brands

According to the story of The edge, the digital clothing that Meta wants to sell to its users has been described as “badly rendered branded clothing”. Meta launches the Avatar Store, where brands like Prada, Balenciaga and Thom Browne can be purchased.

Of course, these aren’t just limited to returned apparel, shoppers can also choose other more daring things like suits, motocross gear, logo hoodies, and more. Meta Twitter post showed what the Avatars of Zuck and Eva Chen, Director of Fashion Partnerships at Instagram, looked like in different designer clothes, which looked quite like game skins.

Mark Zuckerberg expects more brands to come to the Avatar Store

The Meta CEO went on to say that more brands are expected to arrive in the Avatar Store soon. He said digital assets will be a very important way for people to be able to express themselves in the metaverse.

With a lot of buzz surrounding the Metaverse, Zuckerberg thinks fashion will and should play a huge part in it. Just like game skins, buyers can purchase the skins in order to make their character or avatar more unique to look at.

Popular luxury brands coming to the Avatar Store

Mode attempts within the metaverse were highlighted in an article by Business in vogue, which was about Decentraland’s Metaverse Fashion Week. The fashion event included a wide range of brands including Dolce & Gabbana, Etro, Estee Lauder and Dundas.

Going back to The Verge, it has been noted that luxury fashion houses are now extending their reach to digital apparel by partnering with certain tech companies to do so. There were two notable incidents where Balenciaga and Gucci decided to partner on two games in order to bring digital fashion to the masses.

Other times luxury brands turn to digital apparel

In 2021, Balenciaga had its own skin on “Fortnite”, which allowed players to buy branded hoodies for their characters in the game. In another game, “Roblox”, Gucci Town was created, which has allowed players to shop virtually in the virtual store.

Despite Meta’s partnership with some of the biggest names in the fashion industry, the news has just been quietly announced. According to the article, the company did not immediately respond to requests for more details regarding the Avatar store.

According to the company, the store is expected to launch “soon”, but it has not yet been revealed how users will be able to access the store. The Verge notes that they hope the price of digital clothing will be at least lower than that of their real-life counterparts.
