A Balmain collab generates hype like it’s going out of fashion and the latest is no exception. Following on from this year’s successful partnerships with Barbie and Pokémon, Balmain is teaming up with fashion’s favorite thirst quencher, evian water.
On a more commercial level, the two French giants will launch a limited edition 75cL Balmain X evian glass bottle next month, while a haute couture dress will be unveiled as part of the Balmain party during Paris Fashion Week puts sustainable innovation and creativity at the forefront.
The dress was created by Balmain’s artistic director, Olivier Rousteing, woven in a fine monofilament yarn made from recycled evian plastic bottle waste.
Inspired by the magnetic trajectory of a hot tub, Rousteing has harnessed the sculptural possibilities of this innovative recycled fabric, playing with volumes and using pleating techniques to multiply its ever-changing aquatic shimmer.
Using Balmain’s considerable publicity as a platform to draw attention to the environmental impact of plastic waste is a powerful statement.
“As we all know, the fashion industry needs to honestly face the shortcomings of the past and finally admit that we can no longer postpone long-delayed changes. That’s why I’ve pushed for inclusive shows that reflect the true beauty of our world and more sustainable materials that respect the need to preserve this incredible beauty,” Balmain’s Olivier Rousteing said in a statement.
“And that’s why I’m so happy to announce Balmain’s new partnership with evian, one of France’s most iconic brands. evian has helped make it clear to all of us that adhering to the values of integrity and beauty can help form the foundation for refreshing and honest communications, as well as sustainable, carbon-neutral products.
The limited-edition glass bottle features an ice-blue lace pattern reminiscent of water droplets and baroque ornate details synonymous with the house of Balmain that take inspiration from the architecture of Paris.
“As I walk the avenues of Paris, I am constantly drawn to the examples of Baroque ornamentation placed atop this city’s most impressive monuments and structures – and this distinctive beauty is often found in my work…I I can’t think of a better model to showcase the precious contents of evian bottles: crystal clear mineral water of unparalleled beauty,” added Rousteing.
As for the dress, 46% of the fabric is based directly on recycled plastics, which means it easily meets the rigorous standards of GRS4.0 which requires that at least 20% of a product be created from materials recycled.
Much like Balmain, evian has a long heritage of collaborations that include those with Alexander Wang, Kenzo, Moncler and the late Virgil Abloh, founder of Off-White and typically revolve around reusable glass water bottles.
“At evian, we are constantly seeking to identify forward-thinking partners who share our values and with whom we can be pioneers together to go beyond and discover thought-provoking solutions. Building on our existing strong presence in global fashion partnerships, it was an incredible experience to work with Balmain and Olivier Rousteing, celebrating heritage, optimism and a shared determination to drive sustainable innovation forward in fashion. industry,” said Dawid Borowiec, Global Director of evian. .
“Our evian x Balmain dress is a shining example of something striking and unique that can be achieved at the intersection of innovation, design and sustainability, which we hope will inspire more people. ‘a.”
The audience facing Balmain Party takes place on September 28 at Stade Jean Bouin during Paris Fashion Week. The limited-edition 75cl evian x Balmain bottles will launch in October at select global retailers.
