Beauty World Search, the Canadian prodco behind the TV series The fashion herotapped Backstreet Boys member AJ McLean to host a new franchise spin-off, The Fashion Hero: A New Kind of Beauty.
Created to challenge the fashion industry’s preconceived standards of beauty, the original 2015 season of The fashion hero broadcast in over 160 territories worldwide, with broadcast partners such as Discovery LATAM, Nine Now in Australia and RTL II in Hungary, and is also available on digital platforms such as Prime Video and Tubi.
Produced by South African prodco Rapid Blue (X factor, Dancing with the stars) and filmed at Sun City Resort, the new series (10 x 45 min.) features four coaches representing international brands, each assembling a team of candidates who will complete a series of challenges set by celebrity guest mentors. Mentors include celebrity personal trainer and A&E’s host Drew Manning Fit2Fat2Fit; René Elizondo, director and former choreographer of Janet Jackson; the rock band Simple Plan; Canadian pop star Jordyn Sugar; transgender model and activist Elle van der Burg; and Adi Barkan, photographer for vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and Cosmopolitan.
As the series develops, each trainer narrows down their team to a single contestant who will be the face of their brand’s marketing campaign, with the winner being crowned “The Fashion Hero”.
McLean will take a break from the European Backstreet Boys arena tour to launch The Fashion Hero: A New Kind of Beauty at MIPCOM in Cannes on October 16.
“As a member of the Backstreet Boys, one of music’s most successful bands, AJ knows the pressures and unrealistic portrayal of beauty in pop music. His experience and charm make him the ideal entertainer for the new series, and we look forward to launching the show in Cannes at MIPCOM,” Caroline Bernier, Executive Producer and President of Beauty World Search, said in a statement.
