adidas raises the curtain on its latest Made To Be Remade product innovations at the Design London exhibition

  • adidas unveiled its latest Made To Be Remade design innovations, which help drive its sustainability journey

At the launch of Design London 2022, the renowned design event, adidas took the world behind the scenes, to explore its progress in circularity and see how the brand is innovating and collaborating to help end plastic waste.

The adidas exhibition and accompanying panel, titled ‘Chasing Circularity’, were both staged at Design London’s annual event at Magazine London in North Greenwich. The exhibit explores the subject of circularity, offering an honest and transparent view of the progress adidas has made – and the challenges it, and the industry at large, are striving to overcome.

Since adidas unveiled FUTURECRAFT.LOOP in 2019, adidas’ first shoe made entirely from a single material so it can be ground up and turned into a new product after usethe brand has been working on innovations and collaborations that could help it create products made to be remade.

To explore this topic of circularity and the brand’s latest product innovations that are made to be remade, adidas brought together experts in innovation, sustainability and brand design for a panel discussion at the event. Host and sustainable fashion advocate Chante Joseph and a leading voice from Infinited Fiber Company, a Finnish textile technology group, also participated in the discussion.

MADE TO BE REDONE – INNOVATION

Made To Be Remade products are adidas’ first approach to providing products that can be repurposed into something new – where people can wear it until it wears out, then return it by scanning the code QR on the product.

The latest Made To Be Remade apparel and footwear that was unveiled as part of the panel features articles on adidas by Stella McCartney, adidas Terrex and Running, including:

ADIDAS BY STELLA MCCARTNEY SPORTSWEAR VISCOSE TRACKSUIT (GENDER NEUTRAL)
The first of its kind, the new adidas by Stella McCartney sportswear garment in viscose will be the pioneering piece of FW22. The tracksuit was produced as part of the New Cotton Project, a European consortium of 12 key players coming together to demonstrate the potential of circular garment production.

Tanja Karila, Marketing Manager at Infinited Fiber Company said: “Partnering with adidas and the New Cotton Project to create this sportswear means an innovation-driven mindset was key from the start. Having the right collection, sorting and technology processes in place to create a garment suitable for the circular process is a big step forward for the fashion industry. While this may seem like a small step, the reality is that it is these same developments that bring us closer to our common goal and will allow us to create the change we need – greater circularity at scale..”

MADE TO BE REMADE – SPORTSWEAR, RUNNING WEAR AND ULTRABOOST
adidas also unveiled its latest Made To Be Remade sportswear and running collection, which includes the Made To Be Remade Ultraboost in a Core Black / FTW white colourway.

ANORAK MADE TO BE REMADE – ADIDAS TERREX
The adidas Terrex Made To Be Remade Anorak is an insulated jacket made using the new loop-making process. Wear it, then flip it. adidas grinds it down, shreds it and turns it into something new. The end of one product can be the beginning of the next.

The adidas by Stella McCartney Sportswear Tracksuit Viscose (GENDER NEUTRAL) is available from October 6 on and via the adidas app.

Made To Be Remade and Ultraboost sportswear/running wear will be available on adidas.com from September 30.

The adidas Terrex Made To Be Remade Anorak will be available from October 18th.
