10 winter fashion trends to watch in 2022

Today, the fashion industry is moving strongly towards sustainability. Fashion shows, whether in Paris, London, Milan or New York, all focus on sustainable, adaptable, functional, recycled and casual clothing. As we approach the end of 2022, we will see that the emphasis is on simplicity and smarts and that investment in classic and durable clothing is very important. Here are some key trends from different shows that I think will be the highlight of winter 2022:

Y2K mode (late 90s and early to mid 2000s)

One of the biggest Fall/Winter 2022-23 trends is Y2K fashion – from mini skirts with knee high boots to corsets, bandana tops, tank tops, crop tops, oversized clothing, especially jackets, low rise denim and velor tracksuit. Y2K appeals to young and old. This fashion trend brings back candy pink, metallic and translucent clothes, wide leg denim pants and lots of fashionable stitching reminding youngsters of their childhood and teenage years.

Tailored adjustments

Well-fitting clothes never go out of style. This year, the focus is on this trend. You can wear it as office wear, evening wear and party wear. This style statement simply cannot be missed. Made-to-measure three-piece suits, skirt suits are a strong trend for fall-winter 2022. These structured garments are comfortable, elegant, classic and are a must to invest in.

Another trend that will catch everyone’s eye is layering. Wearing clothes over clothes is found in almost every catwalk design. Layered shorts with leggings, coats over sweaters over shirts, blazers over jeans, overcoats over mini dresses, layers with sheer tops, turtlenecks under dresses, dresses over pants, are some key tips to watch out for.

Spring-Summer has given a hint of catsuits, but in the winter runway these seem to come in all shapes and sizes whether leather, print, knit, denim or anything else you can think of. People who are not so comfortable can always pair a jumpsuit with your optional skirt, shorts, overcoat.

Another trend that is so obvious is corsetry detailing. Corsets are seen in different styles, cuts and fabrics. Styles ranging from busts, long sleeves, strapless, gothic to many more and fabrics like satin, fleece, leather, denim simply accentuate power, sexuality and feminism in all its forms.

This trend still marks fall-winter 2022. From top to bottom in a single color especially black is the strongest monochrome style of this season. From your clothes to accessories to shoes, wear everything the same color. Using different textures of the same color adds to make your outfit sexier.

This woolen fabric with a soft and supple texture is a trend to watch. It is popularly used by designers on the runway in all colors and shapes. Chanel has almost entirely dedicated its line to Tweed. Jackets, skirts, mini dresses, pants and coats, etc, the list is endless.

Leather and Velvet

No fabric has become as popular as leather this year. Leather clothing was everywhere in the form of suit sets, leather pants and leggings, coats and dresses. This material simply enhances any look. Velvet also made a comeback this year. Add these fabrics in black, ruby and emerald tones for your special occasions and evening wear.

Feather, Embellishments, Textures and Knits

This season is less about prints and patterns, but more about textures and embellishments to add fun to clothes. Feather and fur are widely used to accent garments. In addition, the use of knitwear cannot be neglected.

Knee high boots, sneakers and platform shoes, gloves, bow, belts, hairpins, scarves all add up to enhance your final look.
